Abstract

The Plan S initiative, a plan that counts with the support of the European Commission and some of the most important national funding agencies is discussed. The Plan S aims to achieve full and immediate open access to publicly funded research. The article exposes some of the criticisms received by Plan S and makes a small reflection on the importance of transformative agreements with large publishers and on the necessary change in the assessment and promotion system of scientists.
