Para conmemorar los 100 años del nacimiento de Henriette Avram, la creadora del formato MARC, se hace un resumen de los hitos que los autores han considerado más importantes en la evolución del formato MARC. Se describen también los avatares de dicho formato en España y sus diferentes "˜sabores´ hasta llegar a la aplicación generalizada del MARC 21. Igualmente se señalan algunos proyectos que han contribuido a la extensión del formato MARC en España.
