Abstract

Web of knowledge (WoK) presented in January 2014 a number of important changes in version 5.13.1, including its name change (to "Web of science"; the database was renamed "Web of science core collection") and the introduction of new tools to refine search results, among which is the option to select articles published in open access journals. This function checks global scientific output over the last decade (2004-2013) to determine the percentage of total publishing that is open access, both worldwide and in Spain. The percentages for the 20 countries with the highest scientific production during the study period are analyzed. The results indicate a slow but steady growth of OA in the WoS, the elite source of scientific literature.
