Artificial intelligence in journalism has been in development for more than a decade. During this time, it has generated tangible results and valuable lessons, but it has also revealed challenges and gray areas that demand attention. Its progress, which is difficult to reverse, rekindles the debate about risks and opportunities in an increasingly complex and changing information ecosystem in need of agile and effective responses. This article offers a critical assessment of this initial phase, identifying the contributions and limitations of this tool in production routines, analyzing the ethical, social, and professional challenges, and underscoring the need for constructive collaboration between humans and machines.Downloads
