Abstract

Details are presented from the study being carried out by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science about applications and enrollment by first-year students at Spanish universities. Results show a considerable decline both in total applications and actual enrollment in library and information studies. This negative trend stands in contrast to the overall enrollment increases at Spanish universities. In addition, the fact that "Information Literacy" as a subject is not part of any of the five paths that constitute the new university education structure is discussed.
