Open data and the gender perspective: where are we going?

Open data is a technological and conceptual innovation that has gained great relevance in recent years. Public administrations, the private sector and the scientific community are aware of the usefulness of this practice, and each one, from its own sphere of action, has integrated it both to open data and for its reuse. In view of the expansion of its use and the scope that it will presumably have in the future, it is important to question what can be improved or where we are not getting it right. One of the main pending issues is the inclusion of the gender perspective in all the phases that make up the open data process, from the composition of the work teams to the design of information collection and the way in which it is made available. This chapter aims to make visible the relevance of the gender perspective and why this approach is necessary for open data to reach its full potential and leave no one behind, including its relevance in addressing challenges and opportunities such as those related to artificial intelligence. In addition, information is provided as to different initiatives that, being aware of this need, have developed various resources to address open data and the gender perspective that can be useful in inspiring new projects and policies.References
