This note reflects on the main challenges facing education and training in Library and Information Science in Spain, within a context marked by the closure of university degree programmes, the redefinition of professional profiles, and the emergence of artificial intelligence. It highlights a clear trend towards specialisation, modular learning, and lifelong learning. The paper also examines the impact of AI on the evolution of professional profiles, emphasising the growing importance of critical thinking, information evaluation, strategic vision, and soft skills. In addition, it addresses the need to adopt emerging teaching methodologies—such as challenge-based learning and dual education—to strengthen youth employability and to make visible the non-automatable added value of information professionals. Finally, it underscores the importance of ethical training and information verification in a landscape characterised by disinformation and algorithmic bias.Downloads
