This text addresses the role of the web of things in the context of the internet of things (IoT) and the deployment of 5G-based technologies. The advantages that will provide the web of things and the need to adopt a standard architecture are analyzed. The role that information professionals must adopt in the web of things and the necessary evolution of their profile and competences towards data management are discussed. Finally, there is a reflection on whether in Spain adequate training is being taught so that these professionals reach the appropriate skills.
